I made our Christmas card tonight. I had these grandiose plans for a really chic, modern card with our entire family on it, but needless to say I ran out of time so this is what I am sending out. And they should be here by Friday :)
Shutterfly is totally enabling my procrastination skills!

Sept 11, 2011- I remember
I woke up this morning walked outside and looked up at the beautiful blue sky dotted with billowy white clouds and was immediately transported back 10 years. The sky looked exactly the same that terrible morning. I remember turning off the television that morning and scooping up my almost one year old and stepping outside with tears in my eyes as I surveyed that same beautiful sky knowing that the world had forever changed.
I remember seeing those horrific images on TV over and over again and each time I could feel my heart breaking for the families who would not see their loved ones again. I remember being amazed by the courageous men and women who without hesitation headed toward the devastation to help their fellow citizens. I remember the evolving story of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania and how ordinary people banded together to do something extraordinary. I remember the hole in the Pentagon. I remember the feeling of helplessness. I remember the reading of the names at Ground Zero. I remember watching our President leading his nation with such grace and determination. I remember the anger. I remember the overwhelming fear of what could happen.
10 years later I still cry when I hear tributes to the victims of September 11th. I still am concerned about the safety of our homeland. I still look at a beautiful blue sky and wonder "what if" I still get angry. Time has passed and life must go on, but now it has now been tinged with the remembrances of that day.

Last night B was the official sash bearer at the 2011 Miss Berkeley County Youth Fair Contest. She was so excited. We attended a tea for the contestants Saturday afternoon. B wasn't nervous at all. She marched right up there during the rehearsal and when they called her up for the real thing she didn't hesitate at all. She was much braver than I have ever been!
Headed to bed early tonight (well early by my usual standards) I am meeting my sister at 345 in the morning to take them to the airport. They are going to be spending the week in California hitting up Disney while they are there. I must really love them, right? (or just expecting a really nice souvenir)

Today:
Ordered dance pictures-the girls were super excited to see them!
Shopping with the kids-always a fun time! C used his birthday money to buy a $40 necklace that "all the MLB players wear"
Lunch and dinner-I cooked neither....which was nice (I do believe I could live on Logan's dinner rolls for the rest of my life!)

@Monkey Joes with the crew. Now eating Coldstone ice cream. I love our fun Fridays!
Published with Blogger-droid v1.7.2..
My sister Dayna and I have decided that once a week this summer we will do something fun with the kids. The kids have dubbed it "Fun Friday" Today after swimming lessons we headed to Monkey Joe's (an indoor inflatables playland) stopping first for lunch of course at Chipotle and a quick trip to Five Below for supplies for our trip next week to the beach.
Monkey Joe's was fun for the kids and Dayna and I discovered some pretty funny blogs using their free wi-fi. I think that is the best part of Monkey Joe's. The kids can play in a reasonably safe place (not including the kid with the giant poop stain on his pants that K spotted) and I can surf the internet in semi-peace. We ended the day with ice cream and a sleep over with T spending the night at our house. All in all a very fun "Fun Friday"
A day in the life.....
Ok I've got a new mission for my blog. A few weeks ago we had a yard sale and while going through all our junk I came across an dvd/vcr combo player and some old vhs tapes of C and K when they were little. We sat and watched them until about 1230 that night. I realized that the last 12 years have been a complete blur. There were little things about our old house I saw on the video that brought back many memories. I also went through alot of the kids clothes and K was impressed that I remembered when and where she was wearing certain outfits. So.....my new mission for this blog is to "try" to somehow capture the simple day to day moments either in video, in pictures or in my witty narrative.
So here goes:

Swim lessons this morning for B and K. This is K's second week of lessons. Tomorrow is the last day for both of them. I will be glad to not have to get them up and to the park pool by 9am every morning. Last year K broke her arm in between the two weeks and wasn't able to finish so the simple fact that we have made it 99% through is a very good thing! K has made a new friend a swim lessons. She makes friends easily and I really admire that quality in her. I was not that outgoing as a kid and I am so proud of her!
B is bossy as usual. My sister and I watched her class today as they moved from one pool to another and she was half walking, half running (because you know what the lifeguards say about running near the pool) of course she was in the front of the line with a little boy right behind her. As they were jockeying back and forth she nonchalantly stuck her arm straight out so the boy could not get by and managed to stay line leader. This chid will be my downfall ;)
Not sure what C did all day beside play Madden football on his Playstation. He is in that in-between stage where he doesn't want to come with "the girls" and do what we are doing, but he complains about being bored ALL THE TIME!
We played some whiffle ball this evening and C took B riding on the mule (like a golf cart). Oh and my wonderful parents gave me some pork tenderloin all cured up and ready to fry....yumm was it good!
One of B's preschool classmates had an end of preschool pool party last weekend. She was a little scared to jump off the diving board, but once she did it she wouldn't be stopped!

Last day of school....
So my middle child seems to be a magnet for disaster. 5th grade and her just don't seem to get along. She has become so self conscious and worried about how her hair looks, what kind of clothes she is wearing and do her shoes match her outfit.
Early in the year I had to take her a change of clothes because someone accidently poured their carton of chocolate milk all over her. And heaven knows a 5th grader just can't go about getting an education with chocolate milk on her shirt! I walk into the office and she is in tears over having to wear chocolaty clothes. I help her change and send her back to learning about fractions.
About 2 months ago I got a call in the middle of the day that she had a rash and could I please bring some anti-itch cream for her. Again I walk into the school office and find her in tears over having to face her friends with a rash on her face (mind you the rash was very faint, I couldn't really even tell it was there)
Yesterday was the official last day of the 2010-2011 school year. Around 340pm I get a call from her school. She gets off the bus here about 350 everyday so I was immediately thinking she must have missed the bus. The secretary tells me that she has been hit by a backpack and her nose is bleeding and do I want her to ride the school bus home. Being the ever loving mother that I am I ask "Is it really that bad?" As soon as it comes out of my mouth I imagine the secretary's horrified facial expression. Like is this mother for real? Well, yes the secretary says it's pretty bad and still bleeding actually. So I gather my stuff and head out the door toward the school. I get there and I am not kidding there are like 6 teachers and the principal all hovered over her patting her and telling her it will be ok. I look down at her blood covered shorts (they were white, of course) and start feeling really bad. She starts crying and I give her a hug and we both say aloud how glad we are that 5th grade is finally over! Turns out this kid that accidently knocked her in the face with his backpack also ran her over outside earlier in the day while they were playing kick ball....umm now I'm really glad 5th grade is over.
She will be starting middle school in the fall and I pray that these years go by very uneventful for her. If not I may just wrap her in bubble wrap and send her off to 6th grade. She could start a new fashion trend!
BTW the nose is fine.... a little swollen and red, but don't tell her that!

What's that saying about how the shoemakers children go without shoes??
Tonight was our annual awards night for the Awana program at our church. I've had the amazing task this year of teaching the K-2nd grade class. I was so proud of my students tonight. I started feeling really good about my teaching skills when the program director commented in front of the congregation how my class had excelled in the quiz night the week before. I was so proud of those kids (and maybe a little too proud of my role in their learning)
We get home and start doing the bedtime routine. While the girls are upstairs taking their showers I get out Baylee's papers from her class. There is a special booklet in there from her teacher. The teacher asked each child a series of questions and wrote down their answers word for word. I start reading through the questions and find Baylee says that her favorite part of Cubbies on wednesday nights is "movies" Well not the super religious answer I was hoping to see but just a tad more realistic than her cousin's answer of "backhoes and bulldozers" Reading further along I find that she knows that every one sins and does bad things and that heaven is "up" Good solid Biblical principles are most certainly being taught in her home, huh? I can hardly contain myself. Not only is my class doing a great job, but even with my youngest child I am doing a really god job! Then I read the next question "Who is Jesus?" Well obviously that is an easy one. I glance down the list and find her name, my chest bursting with pride only to read “I don't remember" My little pride bubble burst right there. Ugh obviously she and I have a lot to work on over the summer.

Baseball-The Baylee Way
We compromised by wearing the tiara to the ball field then putting the ball hat on when we got there. I have a feeling I will be doing a lot of compromising with this child!

While the rest of our family was having a fun Friday night out, B and I were huddled up on the sofa with me getting up every 5 minutes to refresh her ice water or get her a new book to read. She has strep throat.....AGAIN! Jason and Conner were at "sprint car race" (whatever that means) somewhere in PA. Kaycee was off at a family get together with my parents eating delicious food and catching up with her cousin. Poor Baylee was fighting a fever and a sore throat and me.....I was just happy to not have to drive anyone anywhere tonight or sit outside fighting off mosquitoes at the ball field.
